It was good to see that the open day had been such a success, especially after vandals painted the word “evil” across it a couple of weeks ago.
To my surprise, they agreed. We felt that as a station we needed to know what was being said, and we could also attract a new audience, who could gain an understanding of these “minorities”.
There was an outcry initially, especially from the presenters.
We can’t have terrorism here in any form, but we also need to be very careful indeed. A skullcap and a beard do not a terrorist make, in the same way that back then an Irishman drinking Guinness wasn't necessarily a member of the IRA.
No, we can’t have bombs exploding on Australian soil.
But I’d like to think that we look for the best in everyone first, rather than looking for the worst.
